The free transfer replacement of Donnarumma
With Gianluigi Donnarumma set to leave, AC Milan are looking at a free transfer for his repalcement.
The sale of Gianluigi Donnarumma is increasingly likely. The contract of the 21-year-old goalkeeper expires in one year. A contract that is unlikely to be renewed: his salary of six million euros per season is considered very high by the management but Mino Raiola has a different opinion.
The super agent wants to take his client to a bigger club which can allow Gigio to play in the Champions League. Offers for Donnarumma are not lacking with Chelsea in pole position but only in summer will it be understood where he will play next season. In the meantime, AC Milan are looking for a replacement.
If Milan sell Donnarumma the Rossoneri need to find a worthy substitute. The names being linked with Milan in these days are really many. Ranging from veteran Salvatore Sirigu to the younger Alex Meret, Cragno and Juan Musso. A internal solution pairing Plizzari with Pepe Reina cannot be excluded. While Walter Benitez is the new name on AC Milan’s radar.
According to journalist Carlo Pellegatti, Walter Benitez could be an ideal solution for many reasons. The 27-year-old goalkeeper is part of the Argentine national team and plays in France with Nice, where he is doing well. This season Benitez has managed to show off his qualities by saving 33% of the penalties.
In 26 Ligue 1 appearances Benitez has conceded 36 goals helping keeping Nice in 5th place. Another aspect that makes the signing of Walter Benitez even more tempting is the fact that the Argentine goalkeeper becomes a free agent in the summer. Benitez is also a client of Mino Raiola, who could favor his transfer at AC Milan with the farewell of Donnarumma.
