Two Premier League clubs to bid for Milan defender
Two Premier League clubs have targeted AC Milan defender Mateo Musacchio with the Rossoneri open to negotiate depending on the offer.
It was a difficult start of life for Mateo Musacchio in Italy. The Argentine 28 year old centre back was signed for 18 million euros from Villarreal in the summer of 2017. He struggled a lot to adapt to Serie A and above all to gain the trust of the two coaches.
First Vincenzo Montella relegated him to third choice behind the regular duo Bonucci-Romagnoli. It went from bad to worse for Musacchio when Gennaro Gattuso took charge last year. Rino in fact, in the absence of the two Italian defenders, repeatedly preferred Cristian Zapata over the Argentine centre back.
Things look better for Musacchio this season. The departure of Bonucci opened the doors of the starting eleven for the former Villarreal. Despite the arrival of Caldara from Juventus, the projected starter for the new season, the young defender has struggled with injuries and Musacchio remains Gattuso’s top choice. So far Mateo Musacchio has formed the central duo in all the 7 Serie A games for the Rossoneri.
His good start of the season has not gone unobserved. Premier League clubs Fulham and Watford have inquired on the availability of the 28 year old defender. Both average squads in the English championship but with great economic potential.
The Rossoneri do not seem predisposed to sell but the situation can change depending on the offer. The management feels that an experienced figure like Musacchio could be very useful for the growth of both Romagnoli and Caldara. The Red and Blacks value the defender at around 20-25 million euros however in front of a bid of 30 million euros Leonardo would not think twice about selling Argentine.
