Two AC Milan players move to Premier League on deadline day

AC Milan were one of the most active clubs on deadline day signing Luka Jovic but also closing the transfers of two players to England.

It was a crazy deadline day for AC Milan regarding the signing of a new striker. Having seen a move for Mehdi Taremi collapse, AC Milan initially agreed terms for Leicester City’s Patson Daka but due to bureaucratic issues (impossible to complete the visa process in time) could not close the deal. Afterwards the Rossoneri agreed the signing of Spanish striker Rafa Mir from Sevilla for a total of €15 million package. Even that transfer collapsed because Sevilla weren’t able to find a replacement in time.

Eventually AC Milan had to settle for Luka Jovic who joins on a one-year loan from Fiorentina. At the same time the Rossoneri did business also on exits. It has been an eventful summer for Fode Ballo-Toure and Divock Origi. The defender and the striker caused a lot of headaches to the club refusing every proposal until deadline day.

Thankfully Milan managed to offload both players who were no long part of Stefano Pioli’s project. Fode Ballo-Toure has joined Premier League club Fulham. The Senegalese full back made a U-turn and accepted Fulham as his next destination after initially rejecting their offer weeks earlier. Ballo-Toure joins Fulham on dry loan with the English club covering his full salary.

Divock Origi returns to the Premier League after a single, very disappointing, season in Italy. AC Milan made it clear to the Belgian again on deadline day that even if they failed to sign a new striker he would not be reinstated in the squad. Divock Origi has joined Nottingham Forest on loan with the English club having the option to sign him permanently for a €4.5 million.

Nottingham Forest will also cover Origi’s full salary of €4 million per year. The adventure of the Belgian striker at AC Milan was quite an underwhelming one. The former Liverpool scoring only 2 goals in 36 appearances with the Red and Blacks. Milan had different expectations for a player that had played an important role in Liverpool’s triumphs in recent years.
