AC Milan have completed the signing of Sergino Dest from Barcelona. The right back arrival on loan with an option to buy.
New arrival Aster Vranckx was supposed the be the last summer signing of AC Milan. However, initial plans changed after the injury of Alessandro Florenzi against Sassuolo. The Rossoneri fear that Florenzi could stay out for a considerable time and have decided to bring in Sergino Dest from Barcelona.
The Rossoneri evaluated a list of names that also included Hector Bellerin, Hateboer and Odriozola but ultimately decided to go for the young Dutch right back. Dest was a very tempting opportunity that the mercato offered in the last day AC Milan moved quickly to avoid the competition of Manchester United.
Sergino Dest will join AC Milan on an initial loan move with the option to make the transfer permanent for a total fee of €20 million. There is still some work to be done on personal terms but Dest is expected to sign a five-year agreement (1+4) at around €2.5 million per season. The Rossoneri will cover his entire salary while on loan at San Siro.
Dest made a name for himself playing at Ajax. He was part of Ten Hag’s exciting squad of youngsters that played attractive football. A number of clubs were impressed by his performances, however, Sergino decided to join Barcelona in the summer of 2020 for a transfer fee of €25 million. At the same time the talented right-back pledged allegiance to United States refusing an offer to represent Netherlands an international level.
The 21-year-old failed to have the same impact on his two years at Barcelona despite making 72 appearances at Camp Nou. Blaugrana coach Xavi had Dest out of his project and the club and communicated to the defender the need to find a new destination. When the opportunity presented itself, AC Milan had no doubts about whether to bring Sergino Dest in Italy or not.
