Second AC Milan player to leave after Conti

Matteo Gabbia

After the transfer of Andrea Conti to Sampdoria, AC Milan have closed the departure of Matteo Gabbia.

AC Milan announced today that Andrea Conti has left the club after four years at San Siro. The Rossoneri spent 24 million euros in 2017 to purchase the Italian right back from Atalanta. Now Andrea Conti is joining Sampdoria on loan until the end of the season when his contract with Milan expires.

However, Conti may not be the only AC Milan player to join Sampdoria in January. MilanNews.it reports that the two clubs have already reached an agreement for the transfer of Matteo Gabbia to Sampdoria.

Gabbia has impressed in the last two matches in partnership with Pierre Kalulu. The two inexperienced defenders have formed a rock sold duo in the absence of Tomori and Romagnoli. Gabbia has made 5 appearances so far and AC Milan want him to get more experience elsewhere.

The 22-year-old Italian centre back will join Sampdoria on loan until the end of the season without the option to make the transfer permanent. Gabbia’s move to Sampdoria depends on only one condition despite an agreement being already in place.

AC Milan are currently trying to sign a new centre back to replace Simon Kjaer. Paolo Maldini and Massara have scouted a number of players but the defender will likely arrive on loan. Elliott has decided to postpone making an important investment for the purchase of a new defender for the summer.
