AC Milan star Hakan Calhanoglu is on the market. Interest is not lacking and the struggling left winger could be sacrificed to make room for new signings.
Hakan Calhanoglu is in his second season at San Siro. The Rossoneri number 10 has only two assists to his name in Serie A and not a single goal after 13 appearances. While many expected him to confirm the good form of the second part of last season the 24 year old has disappointed. AC Milan’s transition to 4-4-2 hasn’t helped either.
Personal issues have affected his performances but the Turkey international should be contributing much more for Milan to qualify in Champions League next season. Calhanoglu is on the market and the Rossoneri are ready to listen to offers. Another impactful event is the signing of Lucas Paqueta. The 21 year old Brazilian wizard who officially joins Milan in January could oust Calhanoglu from the starting eleven.
In today’s press conference Gennaro Gattuso excluded the sale of top players in January. Yet, according to Tuttomercatoweb reports, rumors on offers from German clubs for Calhanoglu, who has already played in Bundesliga for many years, continue to increase. In addition to Red Bull Leipzig who made a concrete attempt last summer, Schalke 04 are also interested and are ready to offer Calhanoglu the chance to play as protagonist in the upcoming Champions League challenge against Manchester City.
Furthermore, the sale of the former Bayer Leverkusen would allow sporting director Leonardo to operate more easily on the transfer market. In the summer of 2017 AC Milan paid about 22 million euros for his services. Today the price tag of 24 year old winger is around 30 million. A possible sacrifice for the greater (financial) good of AC Milan.
