Chelsea are plotting a January move for AC Milan left back Theo Hernandez who continues to impress in Italy.

Premier League heavyweights Chelsea underwent another unprecedented shopping campaign this summer spending record fees for a number of players. However, despite spending close to half a billion euros this summer results on the pitch have been underwhelming to say the least. New coach Mauricio Pochettino is having the same performance as his predecessors Potter and Lampard.

Chelsea are planning to solve their issues in traditional fashion by throwing more money to the problem. The Blues owner Todd Boehly and coach Mauricio Pochettino are already thinking about the January transfer window. According to Todofichajes, Chelsea are seriously interested in Theo Hernandez who is slowly becoming their top January target.

Chelsea are very disappointed with the performances of Marc Cucurella and were close to letting him go during the summer. Cucurella has yet to play a single minute this season in the Premier League while Ben Chilwell has suffered a hamstring injury that will keep him out for a long time. A top replacement is needed and Theo Hernandez is considered the ideal target.

Theo Hernandez has been a standout performer for AC Milan since his transfer from Real Madrid in 2019. The French left back has become one of the best in the world at his position, if not the best. However, as the history of Sandro Tonali’s sale to Newcastle teaches, the Rossoneri do not consider any player untouchable.

Every player is on the market for the right price and the right price for Theo Hernandez is €100 million. This is the figure that Milan asked from Newcastle when they expressed their interest in the 25-year-old. However, the €100 million fee is well within the reach of Chelsea as demonstrated by the recent signings of Moises Caicedo and Enzo Fernandez.

The current contract of Theo Hernandez with AC Milan expires in 2026. The new club management has not opened talks regarding a contract extension. While 2026 may seem far, it means that at the end of the season Theo will have only two years remaining on his contract. Meanwhile Pochettino presses Boehly to sign a new left back as soon as possible.
