AC Milan captain Romagnoli is Juventus top summer target
Juventus have set their sight on AC Milan captain Alessio Romagnoli. The Italian champions are willing to invest big for the talented Rossoneri defender.
Yet again the Italian Serie A is coming to an end with Juventus winning their eighth consecutive Scudetto title unchallenged. No other Italian team is nowhere near the Bianconeri’s level but it’s obvious that the real goal of Juventus is to win the Champions League.
This season Juventus couldn’t make it past Ajax and were eliminated in the quarter-finals of the competition. The Champions League is a real obsession for Juventus whose last triumph dates more than 30 years ago.
The Serie A champions are ready to try again and after signing Cristiano Ronaldo last year have promised another stellar campaign this summer. Many names have been linked with Juve including AC Milan captain Alessio Romagnoli.
According to Tuttosport, a source very close to the Bianconeri, Romagnoli is Juventus’ top transfer target this summer. With Barzagli set to retire at the end of the season, Chiellini reaching 34 and Bonucci not so reliable, Juventus are in desperate need to rejuvenate their defence with a top quality defender like the 24-year-old Romagnoli.
The Italians tried to sign Romagnoli last year in the middle of the Yonghong Li-caused crisis but Alessio showed true dedication towards the Rossoneri and renewed his contract at the time when other Milan players were thinking of leaving. Marquinhos of PSG is the alternative.
AC Milan signed Romagnoli in 2015 from Roma for 25 million euros. The Italy international has become one of the best defenders in the world ever since and was named AC Milan captain this season following Bonucci’s departure. Alessio has made 150 appearances for Milan scoring 7 goals. Romagnoli’s current market price is at around 60 million euros but only a higher offer could tempt Milan.
