AC Milan could sacrifice struggling winger Hakan Calhanoglu in order to sign midfield star Cesc Fabregas from Chelsea in January.
After leading AC Milan with goals and assists in the second part of last season, Calhanoglu has disappeared from the radar. The Turkish started well, playing a great match against Roma, his first in Serie A this season, but then lost his way. An inexplicable regression that has forced the Rossoneri management to reflect on the future of Hakan.
OUT – As reported by today’s edition of La Gazzetta dello Sport, if Lucas Paqueta, a talent on which Leonardo has bet in first person, proves to be ready to play as left winger, Milan could sell Calhanoglu as early as January. Coach Gennaro Gattuso has repeatedly defended and encouraged the young Turkish star but would have no problem to let him leave if his performance should continue to be underwhelming.
RB LEIPZIG? – The problem, however, is to find a buyer who considers Hakan a top player worthy of a 30 million euros investment. That’s the price tag AC Milan have set for the services of the former Bayer Leverkusen. Bundesliga club Red Bull Leipzig have set their sights on the player and the Rossoneri are awaiting official offers. The future of Calhanoglu clearly depends on the next matches.
FABREGAS – The eventual sale of Calhanoglu, as well as being useful for the budget in relation to UEFA’s sanctions, would also facilitate negotiations with Chelsea for Cesc Fabregas. The Blues demand 12 million euros despite the player becoming a free agent very soon while Milan have offered only 5. With fresh funds available from Calhanoglu’s potential sale, Leonardo would have no problem closing a deal for Fabregas and also moving more easily on the market for other targets.
