AC Milan identify €20m Meite replacement

Albert Lokonga AC Milan

AC Milan will need to sign a new central midfielder in the summer and the Rossoneri are looking again at Anderlecht.

AC Milan have decided not to make Soualiho Meite’s transfer permanent. At the end of the season the French midfielder must return to Torino because the Rossoneri will not exercise their purchase option set at 10 million euros.

Immediately Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara are looking on the market to find his replacement. According to reports from journalist Nicolo Schira, the Rossoneri have targeted Anderlecht central midfielder Albert Sambi Lokonga.

Albert Lokonga was one of the option Milan had considered before signing Meite in January. The Belgium international of Congolese origin is a physical midfielder 1 meter and 83 centimeters tall, dynamic in his movements and very intelligent tactically.

Lokonga grew up in the Anderlecht academy. The 21-year-old made his debut in 2017 and has been a regular starter for the last two seasons. He has made 24 league appearances so far, scoring 2 goals and providing 2 assists. Impressed with his performances, coach Martinez has recently made Lokonga part of the Belgium national team. The player hopes to make the cut in the EURO 2021 squad.

Lokonga does well in breaking up play and leading the defense to attack. He comes out of the deep midfield frequently and delivers an intelligent passes to his teammates. Besides AC Milan, Barcelona, Sevilla and Manchester City are also on his tracks.

Anderlecht rate Lokonga at least 20 million euros. At the Rossoneri he would find his old teammate Alexis Saelemaekers. In January, Saelemaekers admitted to having asked the management to sign Albert: “I have mentioned his name a few times. It would be fantastic to have him here, he has all the skills to play in a club like this“.
