AC Milan sign German centre back Malick Thiaw
AC Milan have completed the signing of German defender Malick Thiaw. The 21-year-old will join Stefano Pioli’s squad on Monday.
The search for a new defender has finally come to an end. AC Milan have closed the signing of Malick Thiaw from Schalke 04. The German centre back will be the one to complete the Rossoneri’s back line after AC Milan pulled the plug on the Sven Botman transfer.
Italian journalist Gianluca Di Marzio reveals the details of the transfer. Thiaw has been on AC Milan’s radar for the last year. The Rossoneri scouts have followed the 21-year-old defender since his performances with Germany Under-21 for the European qualifiers in 2021.
In fact, Malick Thiaw was very close to joining AC Milan in January but talks were Schalke were unsuccessful because of their insistence to get over €10 million for their gem. Thiaw will join AC Milan on a permanent transfer from Schalke for a fee of €5 million reports Gianluca Di Marzio.
Thiaw will arrive in Italy on Monday to undergo medical exams at the La Madonnina clinic before signing a long-term contract with AC Milan. A curiosity of the transfer is that talks have been carried out by Gordon Stipic. That’s the same agent that pushed Hakan Calhanoglu to reject AC Milan’s renewal offer and move to Inter.
Now that the Italian champions have close the defender issue it’s time for Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara to turn their attention to the midfield. Thiaw will not be AC Milan’s last summer arrival. The Rossoneri plan to add another central midfielder to their ranks before the mercato is over.
