President accepts that AC Milan target Lois Openda may leave
Lens president opens up to the possibility of AC Milan transfer target Lois Openda leaving the French club this summer.
With a great average of goals per minute (one goal each 137 min), together with the excellent performances of players like Fofana and Sotoca, Lois Openda has led his club to a stunning 2nd place in Ligue 1 and qualification for next season’s Champions League. His qualities are undisputed, and for this reason the Rossoneri fans hope that the recent declarations of the Lens president can lead to new developments in the negotiation.
AC Milan are preparing for a season of many changes after securing Champions League qualification with a pragmatic 1-0 victory against Juventus. The Rossoneri management aims to revolutionize the squad in order to better compete against the other big teams in Serie A and Europe next season. The top priority on the market is a new centre forward.
With Ibrahimovic, Rebic and Origi, all set to leave, Milan need to bring in at least one important striker. Lois Openda is high on Paolo Maldini’s list of targets this summer and according to Gazzetta dello Sport he represents the number one choice. The Italian newspaper adds that the Rossoneri may end up offering over €20 million for the Belgian striker.
When asked about the possibility of Lois Openda leaving Lens this summer, club president Joseph Oughourlian admitted that it was an option. “If a big club comes for one of our players, we will talk to the staff and be prepared. We don’t always have control over those things. If the big teams arrive for our players, there’s not much we can do“, said Oughourlian.
Despite being his first year in France, Openda ended the season with 20 goals and 3 assists in 37 Ligue 1 appearances. His potential is obvious and his characteristics seem to match the needs of AC Milan. The Rossoneri are definitely in the race for the 23-year-old striker who seems destined for a bright career at the highest levels.
