AC Milan captain set to join Italian rivals

Alessio Romagnoli

AC Milan are set to lose captain Alessio Romagnoli at the end of the season. The contract of the Italian defender will not be renewed.

Now that the summer market is over, the clubs are already planning for the future. The Rossoneri have worked at 360 degrees and have provided coach Stefano Pioli with a complete and capable team to compete on all fronts this season.

Now the Rossoneri need to concentrate on renewals. The contract of two important players like Franck Kessie and Alessio Romagnoli expire at the end of the season and they both risk leaving on free transfers next summer.

The AC Milan captain has lost his regular status after the arrival of Fikayo Tomori. The Rossoneri spent a total of 31 million euros to sign the English centre back on a permanent deal from Chelsea. Tomori has formed a rock solid partnership with Simon Kjaer leaving Romagnoli on the bench for a long period of time.

The chances that Romagnoli stays at Milan are extremely low. Despite not being a regular starter, the 26-year-old has asked an improved contract of 6 million euros per season that the Rossoneri have no intention to offer. According to La Repubblica, Alessio Romagnoli has already been blocked by Lazio and will join Maurizio Sarri’s squad at the end of the season as a free agent.

The Italian defender is a notorious Lazio fan and would fulfill his childhood dream by joining the Capitol club. Meanwhile, for many months Maldini has not had contacts with Romagnoli’s agent Mino Raiola to discuss his renewal. The Rossoneri plan to use him as a luxury alternative until his contract runs down and then bring a new centre back.
