AC Milan choose Serie A left back as Theo’s successor

Theo Hernandez

AC Milan and Theo Hernandez may part ways at the end of the season. The Rossoneri are looking on the market for a new left back.

The future of AC Milan ace Theo Hernandez is in great doubt and Giorgio Furlani’s recent words were less the reassuring. The Rossoneri CEO declared that Theo and Mike Maignan are under contract until 2026 and that it is the players who decide their future. Negotiations are under way to find an agreement with the French goalkeeper on a contract extension while for the 26-year-old left back the situation is quite different and there are not contacts between the parties.

There is a real risk that AC Milan and Theo Hernandez may part ways at the end of the season. The Rossoneri are willing to listen to offers for every player and if the bid is deemed appropriate then Milan would not hesitate to sell Hernandez just like they did last summer with Sandro Tonali. Meanwhile, Milan are already working on the market to find a new left back. That may be a clear signal that the chances of Theo’s departure are pretty high.

Until one point, Real Betis defender Juan Miranda was the chosen one for the left back position. However, Milan have abandoned the race for the Spanish defender and are looking in Serie A for the replacement of Theo Hernandez. Tuttosport reports that AC Milan are in talks to  sign Patrick Dorgu from Lecce. The 19-year-old defender has attracted the attention of several clubs with his performances in his first season in Italy.

Lecce spent only 200 thousand euros to purchase Patrick Dorgu from Nordsjaelland and are set to make a healthy profit one year latter. Lecce have set a price tag of at least €10 million for their gem according to Tuttosport. The Denmark Under-21 international has made 26 appearances so far this season, scoring one goal and providing one assists.

On paper Patrick Dorgu seems like the ideal successor of Theo Hernandez. An explosive left back during his team at Nordsjaelland’s youth ranks, Dorgu has improved a lot defensive during his first year in Italy. Unfortunately, Dorgu was not given the chance to impress the Rossoneri in Saturday’s match between the two squads as he entered the pitch in the final 5 minutes of the game.
