AC Milan technical director Paolo Maldini has identified the replacement of Alessio Romagnoli. The Rossoneri captain could leave for a number of reasons.

Alessio Romagnoli, AC Milan defender and captain, could be sold during the upcoming summer transfer window. The Rossoneri number 13, in fact, is under contract with Milan until 30 June 2022 and he is asking 5 million per season in order to renew. Therefore, he is not so sure of remaining under Stefano Pioli’s orders next season.

Romagnoli joined the Rossoneri in the summer of 2015 from Roma for 25 million euros plus 30% of future sale. For his good services the 26-year-old was named club captain. Although he is not living a good time, Alessio has been a pillar of AC Milan’s defence for the last six seasons. Many criticize the Italian centre back for having stopped growing and the derby fiasco has only added gasoline to the fire.

A disastrous performance against Romelu Lukaku in a period when Romagnoli has been guilty of many fouls and penalties caused. Paolo Maldini, AC Milan’s technical director, is thinking whether to put Alessio Romagnoli up for sale in the summer. Talks with Raiola over a new contract of 5 million per year have proven difficult and the Rossoneri risk losing him for free next season.

According to pianetamilan, AC Milan are thinking of life after Romagnoli with Odilon Kossonou his possible heir. The 20-year-old centre back is part of Club Brugge while in the past he has played with Hammarby. The Swedish club is partly owned by Zlatan Ibrahimovic. In the summer of 2019 Club Brugge spent 4 million euros to sign Kossonou. Kossonou has made 29 appearances this season, including 5 in Champions League, attracting the attention of important European clubs.

The Mirror reports that besides Milan, Inter, Arsenal and a couple of Spanish clubs are interested in Kossonou. Arsenal have already seen a 10 million euros offer rejected. If Milan are unable to fix the problems of Romagnoli then Odilon Kossonou will likely be his heir.
