With talks for Milenkovic halted, AC Milan have turned their attention to other transfer targets to complete the defence.
AC Milan continue their hunt for a new centre back. Simon Kjaer was signed on a permanent deal for 3.5 million but at least one between Mateo Musacchio and Leo Duarte will leave the club this summer.
Another central defender is needed, able to complete the back line together with Alessio Romagnoli and Matteo Gabbia. Nikola Milenkovic of Fiorentina has been liked for a long time but now a new name is emerging.
In talks with Fiorentina, AC Milan have insisted in a swap deal between Milenkovic and Lucas Paqueta but the Viola want to sell their gem only for 40 million. Thus AC Milan have turned their attention to Nikola Maksimovic.
RAI Sport (via MilanNews.it) reports that the Napoli defender is the alternative to Milenkovic. Napoli are working to renew the contract of Maksimovic but the player will listen to all the offers before making a final decision.
With his contract expiring in one year the 28-year-old has attracted the interest of many clubs. Maksimovic could be a good solution. The Serbian defender has been in Italy for many years and with Gattuso at the helm this season he has been the regular starter in defence alongside Kalidou Koulibaly. In 2016, Napoli spent 26 million euros to buy Maksimovic from Torino.
