AC Milan defender set to join Spanish club on cut-price deal

AC Milan centre back Mateo Musacchio will reportedly leave the Rossoneri in January and return to Spain.

Until the very last moments of the summer transfer window AC Milan tried to sign a new centre back. A priority of the club even though the Rossoneri already have five players in that position: Alessio Romagnoli, Simon Kjaer, Mateo Musacchio, Leo Duarte and Matteo Gabbia.

The Argentine defender has not been active for many months but it’s about to return on the pitch. Musacchio has practically recovered from an ankle injury that has kept him out nearly half a year.

In about two weeks the former Villarreal is expected to return to train with the rest of the squad which for the derby has to deal with his absence, in addition to those of Duarte and Gabbia due to Coronavirus. Nevertheless, his stay at San Siro will certainly be short.

Musacchio has lost his regular spot besides Romagnoli since Kjaer’s arrival and without the injury would have surely moved to a new club during the summer. Now his expiring contract in June complicates the Rossoneri’s plans a bit, who are unlikely to collect the 10 million euros they hoped for in the summer.

Anyways, in January Musacchio will pack his bags and return to Spain. According to reports by TodoFichajes, Mateo Musacchio will join Valencia. The Spanish club are in contact with both the player’s agents and AC Milan. Valencia coach Javi Gracia has asked for experienced players to strengthen his squad. The deal could go through for a symbolic amount.
