AC Milan sign new attacking midfielder

AC Milan have completed the signing of Junior Messias from Crotone. The Brazilian will be the Rossoneri’s new attacking midfielder.

Ever since the farewell of Hakan Calhanoglu, who did not renew his contract and joined Inter as a free agent, one of AC Milan’s top priorities has been to sign a new attacking midfielder. The Rossoneri thought (and above all hoped) to fill this void much earlier but instead the search lasted until the very last day of the summer transfer window.

After talks with Brest for Romain Faivre collapsed, AC Milan turned their attention on Junior Messias. The 30-year-old Brazilian player of Crotone will have his medicals today and sign a three-year contract with the Rossoneri.

La Gazzetta dello Sport reports that in the late hours of last night the AC Milan managers met those of Crotone and reached an agreement for the transfer of the Brazilian attacking midfielder. Junior Messias will arrive on loan for 2.6 million euros and AC Milan will have the option to make the transfer permanent at the end of the season for another €5.4 million plus one million in add-ons.

The agreement was confirmed by the Crotone president who declared “Messias will surprise the Milan fans“. Thus, Stefano Pioli will finally have his long-awaited reinforcement in attack. At this point the squad is considered completed and the attention of Maldini and Massara will be focused only on offloading unwanted players in the last remaining hours of the mercato.

Before closing the singing of Messias, AC Milan made an attempt for Atalanta’s Aleksey Miranchuk. However, the Bergamo club were unwilling to negotiate the sale of Miranchuk due to the lack of necessary time in order to find a replacement.
