AC Milan have resumed their work on the transfer market but with different targets following the exit of Maldini.
AC Milan owner Gerry Cardinale had a very short trip in Italy but its impact has been quite powerful. Within 48 hours the American business decided to fire Maldini and Massara, the two architects of Milan’s recent success, and install a brand new management team. The management change was followed up by a strategy change on the market as well.
Furlani and Massara are no longer chasing the targets that Maldini had prioritized. Instead the two, in cooperation with coach Stefano Pioli are in talks for other players. At the same time, Cardinale has reportedly left instructions for a specific name he would like to have at AC Milan. That player is his compatriot Christian Pulisic.
Cardinale believes that the potential signing of Christian Pulisic would bring great commercial benefits to AC Milan. The 24-year-old Chelsea winger is the most recognized player in USA and attaching him to the Red and Black colors could help the Rossoneri penetrate an expanding and important market like the one of USA.
Christian Pulisic is set to leave Chelsea this summer with his contract expiring in one year. If the Premier League club don’t sell Pulisic now they risk losing him for free in 2024. Chelsea have set a price tag of around €25 million for Pulisic. That’s just a fraction of €64 million fee the Blues paid for his services to Borussia Dortmund in 2019.
Journalist Gianluca Di Marzio confirms that Pulisic is more than a suggestion for AC Milan who need to sign a new right winger this summer. The player as well has offered his services to the Italian club. However, the big problem is his contract demand of €5 million per season. Too much for a player that scored only one goal in 30 appearances this season. That figure would make him the second highest earner at the Rossoneri behind Rafael Leao.
