After the excellent performance with Atalanta, Sandro Tonali has been called-up by Italy for their upcoming Nations League matches.
UPDATE: Italy U-21 coach Paolo Nicolato has explicitly asked Mancini to have Tonali for the upcoming matches at his disposal. Tonali is the captain of Italy U-21 and the team needs him for the upcoming qualification matches against Bosnia-Herzegovina e Sweden valid for the European Championship.
Sandro Tonali is having a great season so far. The 21-year-old Italian central midfielder has become a key player for Stefano Pioli and an untouchable in his formation. The difference with last season is drastic and the former Brescia is a totally transformed player.
Even in the last match against Atalanta, Tonali was simply devastating. An imposing figure in midfield, the youngster controlled the game and scored AC Milan’s second goal with a cold-blood finish in front of Juan Musso.
To crown Sandro Tonali’s excellent performance at the Gewiss stadium, the talented midfielder will join the Italian national team in the final four of Nations League. Coach Roberto Mancini will count on Tonali for the semi-final against Spain and, if they win, against one between France and Belgium in the final on 10 October. He return for Sando whose last official appearances with the national team was against Armenia in November 2019.
He will take Matteo Pessina’s spot who suffered an injury in yesterday’s match. Besides Tonali, Davide Calabria will join the Italian national team too. The de facto AC Milan captain will replace Rafael Toloi. The Atalanta defender suffered an injury and could not be available for the Nations League.
After the match with Atalanta coach Stefano Pioli did not spare praise for Tonali on Milan TV. “He has grown a lot, he has incredible skills. We are talking about a 21-year-old boy who has a world ahead of him of footballing maturity. Everyone must continue with this attitude, always putting the team in front, and if we do so then we can continue to grow and become even stronger”.
