The year is over for two AC Milan players – the situation
AC Milan pay a high price for their victory against Empoli. Three Rossoneri players were injured and the situation is serious.
A spectacular evening at Carlo Castellani Stadium. AC Milan get the three points with three goals scored at the stoppage time. Rebic opens the scoresheet while Empoli equalized with a beautiful free kick in the 91 minute. Fode Ballo-Toure, the unlikely hero, brings back the advantage while Rafael Leao closed the match in the 96 minute with a perfect parable.
AC Milan’s victory is even more remarkable considering that the team is plagued by injuries lately. Florenzi, Theo Hernandez, Ibrahimovic, Origi, Maignan and Messias were absent. Simon Kjaer, Alexis Saelemaekers and Davide Calabria are the latest to join the long list of injuries.
Saelemaekers and Calabria were forced to leave the match in the first half and it looks like the situation is serious for both as admitted by Stefano Pioli. “Calabria and Kjaer’s injuries need to be evaluated carefully but I think Davide’s is quite serious. Saelemaekers looks like a collateral ligament sprain, but let’s see“.
The players will undergo detailed exams upon their return in Milan. However, it looks like the year is practically over for Alexis Saelemaekers and Davide Calabria. Both players, Kjaer probably as well, should be back one the pitch in January. Serie A ends earlier this year, in mid-November, due to the Qatar World Cup.
The recent injuries are a huge problem for Stefano Pioli. In the upcoming three matches, AC Milan will face twice Chelsea and in the middle is the director encounter with Juventus. Despite all the problems, Pioli promises: “We are ready”.
