Suso-Milan: lack of renewal and the possible implications

Despite the good will, Suso and Milan have yet to reach an agreement for the signing of a new contract. After Donnarumma Milan can’t afford another renewal failure.

In the rossoneri house there is a delicate situation to be solved and that concerns the flamboyant winger Jesus Fernandez de la Torre, simply known as Suso. His current contract, expiring in 2019, was the subject of negotiations for a possible renewal, but the situation has stalled for months.

Alfredo Pedulla, sports journalist and transfer market expert at Sport Italia, explains in his own blog what has happened. Before the closing, Milan had reached an agreement with the Spaniard for a contract worth 2.5 million euros plus bonuses. Milan’s new executives, CEO Marco Fassone and sports director Massimiliano Mirabelli, however, have announced that they will not guarantee the player the contract promised by Adriano Galliani. The new ownership intends to lower the amount to 2 million euros per season.

Suso and his entourage have been curbing the negotiations that long ago seemed to have a positive epilogue. What will happen now? If a deal can’t be reached, the sale of Milan’s number 8 can not be ruled out. On Suso’s footsteps are Roma and several english clubs. The 23 year old winger wants to stay at Milan, but there is a distance of half a million between offer and demand. If Suso and Milan decide to part ways, an alternative to the former Liverpool could be Juan Cuadrado, who will leave Juventus and is very much liked by Vincenzo Montella. There is currently no negotiation between the parties, just an exploratory survey with agent Alessandro Lucci.

Suso

AC Milan signed Suso in 2015 from Liverpool for 1 million euros. He was loaned at Genoa for one season and upon his return at the rossoneri he has been a vital part of the team. This season he played in 34 Serie A matches where he managed to score 7 goals and assist 9 times. An injury kept him out for one month, during that time Milan experienced one of the worst moments of the season barely winning a match.
