Sassuolo CEO Giovanni Carnevali confirms that AC Milan transfer target Domenico Berardi has asked to be sold.
Another one of Italy’s European champions has decided to change the air after many years at the same club. Domenico Berardi wants to try a new experience elsewhere, far from his safe harbor Sassuolo. At 27, the Neroverdi captain intends to make a leap forward and play for a club that can compete for silverware.
As already reported by acmilaninfo.com, Domenico Berardi had asked Sassuolo to let him leave this summer. Today, Sassuolo general director, Giovanni Carnevali, confirms the rumors.
Carnevali revealed there is a sort of ‘gentlemen agreement’ between Sassuolo and Berardi. “It’s true, Domenico has expressed his will to change team, but we gave his agents a deadline at the time, until 12 August. The offers have not arrived and we have to plan. However, we do not intend to upset our players, we are always ready to sit down to satisfy the wishes of a player but it is necessary that suitable offers arrive”.
Carnevali’s revelation could make the end of the mercato very interesting, as far as Berardi’s position is concerned. Many clubs are interested in the Italian right winger but evidently in times of crisis there are very few clubs able to make a suitable offer.
Sassuolo, in talks with Juventus during the sale of Manuel Locatelli, has shown that it can also open the door to convenient solutions, such as loans with obligation to buy in the future. A formula that AC Milan, great admirers of Berardi, could also try to put on the plate.
However, it will not be easy to sign Berardi. As admitted by the Sassuolo CEO, time is running out and the evaluation of the left-footed winger is not less than 35 million euros. In addition, AC Milan before attempting an assault on the 27-year-old should trim out the squad and get rid of at least one between Samu Castillejo and Rade Krunic.
