Real Madrid coach Carlo Ancelotti is looking in Italy to improve his defence with the AC Milan captain available for free.
AC Milan have two players whose contract expires at the end of the season and obviously there are other clubs interested in their services. Paolo Maldini and Frederic Massara are working to renew the respective contracts of Alessio Romagnoli and Franck Kessie but it is not easy to find an agreement.
According to reports from Diario Gol, Real Madrid have set their sights on Romagnoli. Carlo Ancelotti appreciates him a lot and would like to sign the AC Milan captain to reinforce the defense. Los blancos are seriously considering his signing as a free agent at the end of the season. In the same way they will take PSG star Kylian Mbappe whose contract expires on June 2o22.
Although Romagnoli is the captain of Milan, he is no longer a regular starter. The arrival of Fikayo Tomori has caused him to be relegated to the position of a back-up player for either the former Chelsea or Simon Kjaer. When he is called upon, however, he almost always has performed very well. That’s why Maldini and Massara aim to renew his contract.
Real Madrid, like other clubs, are lurking and could tempt Romagnoli with a better offer than AC Milan. Real Madrid’s defence has leaked on several occasions so Ancelotti has asked for new signings. The Italian centre back is currently in renewal talks with AC Milan but the situation is not optimal.
In Spain they are confident that the former Roma defender will not renew his contract. He currently earns €6 million per season (bonuses included) with the Rossoneri unlikely to go beyond €3.5 million per year. Romagnoli’s sale in January is excluded because AC Milan need his experience to challenge for the scudetto this season.
