Ricardo Rodriguez: The reason he’s a star with Switzerland and a flop at Milan
The in-demand Ricardo Rodriguez is a star player every time he plays with the Swiss national team but he flopped at his first season with AC Milan. How so?
He was certainly the best on the pitch against Spain and he managed to score again against Japan yesterday. Two great performances just a few days before the start of the World Cup. With the national team we see a different Rodriguez than the one why plays for Milan.
Nicolo Casolini, a leading journalist from RSI (Switzerland Radio-television) offers an interesting take on the performances Ricardo Rodriguez this season. The 25 year old was chosen recently as the best left back in the history of Swiss national but he fails to replicate the same results at San Siro.
“The difference is that he has a coach who works mainly on the defensive phase and then in the Italian league the teams think more to defend rather than to attack. In Gattuso’s AC Milan you rarely see the full-backs up front. It is true that Rino has used him almost in every match but his game was conditioned by the fact that with Gattuso the full-backs never attack, very rarely.
If a player has to think more about defending than attacking, then when he pushes forward he is also less lucid. That’s the reason why we we see a totally different player with the national team“, concludes Casolini.
