AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli wants to give Tommaso Pobega a chance to fight for his spot next season.
Tommaso Pobega was one of the standout performers in Serie B last season. The Italian midfielder did really well with Pordenone and attracted the attention of many clubs. This season, AC Milan decided to loan Pobega to Spezia and the 21-year-old impressed even in Serie A.
The talented central midfielder scored 6 goals and assisted 3 in 20 league appearances. AC Milan have decided to give the goal scoring midfielder a chance during pre-season. With Kessie and Bennacer to feature in Africa’s Nation Cup between January and February, Pioli seems convinced that Pobega could be e key member of the squad for the new season reports journalist Carlo Pellegatti.
“The midfielder figure for next season is fundamental because in addition to Kessie and Bennacer, involved in the African Cup in January, there will be permanent signing of Tonali. It will likely happen in July but Tonali will certainly be a Milan player.
However, Milan need another starter in midfield, a player who can be reliable. Tommaso Pobega returns and Pioli wants to see him carefully and understand if he can be adapted as a central midfielder similar to Kessie or Bennacer, even if he has played as mezzala so far.
He is a player who can prove useful in creating chances and has an eye for goal. When a midfielder scores goals he becomes a commodity to be well evaluated before selling him. Pobega is a creative player that also scores regularly. Such a midfielder is not always easy to find on the market”.
