For the first time under his tenure AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli is expected to use a 4-4-2 formation in the upcoming match against Cagliari.
The 2020 debut of AC Milan was something to be forgotten but certainly in the same line with the results of 2019. The Rossoneri dominated against Sampdoria but were unable to find the back of the net. Something that is haunting Pioli’s side since the beginning of the season.
On Saturday AC Milan travel to Cagliari to face a team that has done very well so far with João Pedro in excellent form. If qualification in European competitions is still an objective of the club then something must certainly change in view of Cagliari.
While Paolo Maldini and Zvonimir Boban are preparing a revolution on the transfer market, Stefano Pioli instead evaluates drastic changes on the pitch already starting from Cagliari. In fact, according to reports by CorSport, the coach has tried for the first time the 4-4-2 formation with two strikers.
In yesterday’s training session, coach Stefano Pioli used a brand new game system. Davide Calabria, Mateo Musacchio, Alessio Romagnoli and Theo Hernandez played in defence in front of Gianluigi Donnarumma. While in midfield, Frank Kessie and Ismael Bennacer were seen at the center with Samuel Castillejo on the right and Hakan Calhanoglu on the left. Zlatan Ibrahimovic and Refael Leao composed the attacking duo.
In today’s press conference Pioli admitted that he’s considering a formation with two strikers but didn’t want to give indications whether Ibrahimovic and Leao will be the starting duo. “Ibrahimovic is not yet ready to play 90 minutes“. Nevertheless, Zlatan has made his choice and the young Portuguese will be his partner in attack.
