Pioli considering new formation for next season
Coach Stefano Pioli is considering alternative formation choices after having used the 4-2-3-1 system for a year and a half.
The summer friendlies are now over and AC Milan are thinking about their Serie A debut. On 23 August, the Rossoneri will be on stage in Genoa against Sampdoria and the goal is to start with a win.
After the excellent second place of the last season, the Rossoneri are called upon to repeat themselves. There are many players from whom improvements are expected, given their young age. Coach Stefano Pioli too should confirmation himself. There will also be a return to the Champions League, therefore everyone is under exams in the new season.
At Milanello, the squad is working with great commitment and concentration to make another great season. Pioli is studying new solutions to put players in the best position to express their talent. In his mind there is also the possibility of changing formation, as we have already seen during the friendly games. If last season the 4-2-3-1 seemed untouchable, now it is no longer the case.
Tuttosport reports that the arrival of Olivier Giroud has led the Rossoneri coach to consider alternative tactics. An experimental game system is the 4-4-2 formation, used in the last summer test against Panathinaikos. A solution that allows the center forward not to risk being isolated in front. In Trieste, it was Ante Rebic who supported him, with Rafael Leao employed on the left wing.
An unbalanced formation that Pioli could propose again. Also because, with the exception of Brahim Diaz, there is no other true attacking midfielder in the squad and the coach must have other variants ready. AC Milan are working on the purchase of a new playmaker, but at the moment there is no negotiation close to a positive conclusion.
In any case, it is important to have a plan B. A coach must always be open to study changes and not just fossilize on a single formation. With the return of Zlatan Ibrahimovic it is not excluded that the Swede and Giroud may be deployed together. Certainly a solution to try. Especially in certain games having a “heavy” attack can be very useful.
