Pioli planning attacking-minded formation for Benevento
AC Milan need a win at all costs against Benevento. That’s why coach Pioli is considering a more attacking formation than usually.
When Zlatan Ibrahimovic is not available to provide goals, the Rossoneri struggle a lot to find the back of the net. The latest 3-0 defeat against Lazio was a prime example of how much Ibra-dependent Stefano Pioli’s side is.
Now the Rossoneri occupy the 5th place in Serie A standings and risk another year out of Champions League. The upcoming home match with Benevento is a must win and coach Stefano Pioli is thinking of a more attacking-minded formation reports La Gazzetta dello Sport.
Zlatan Ibrahimovic, who has been out in the last three matches, returns to lead the attack. Rafael Leao and Mario Mandzukic were unable to replace the Swedish giant and provide goals in his absence.
Unlike in recent games, both Samu Castillejo and Alexis Saelemaekers could stay on the bench. According to La Gazzetta, Pioli will play Rafael Leao on the right wing with Ante Rebic on the opposite flank. Hakan Calhanoglu will complete the trio in support of Ibrahimovic.
In the five remaining matches AC Milan will face Juventus, Torino, Cagliari and Atalanta, besides Benevento. Napoli, Juve and Milan have the same number of points, 66, while Atalanta have 68.
