Piatek and Leao: Pioli’s next move
The real Krzysztof Piatek seems to be back and AC Milan coach Stefano Pioli is studying a move that would see the Polish striker partner with Rafael Leao in attack.
MILAN NEWS – Against Lecce, we finally saw flashes of the real Krzysztof Piatek. After 154 days, the Polish centre forward scores his first goal not coming from a penalty kick. His strike on open play was missing since 19th May, when the man with 30 seasonal goals managed to scratch even Juventus at the Allianz Stadium.
But since then total darkness, an absolute blackout between a slow summer and a bitter start to the season. The bench against Lecce seemed like the final nail in the coffin.
Stefano Pioli preferred the physical and mental freshness of Rafael Leao, but Piatek sent a clear message to the AC Milan coach. In half an hour he did what the Portuguese had failed to do in the previous 60 minutes. Score. Capitalize on the very first opportunity.
A welcomed challenge for Pioli. According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, the Italian coach is examining the possibility to make Piatek and Leao coexist. The players are currently working at Milanello and there is a real good chance to see Piatek and Leao both from the first minute in Roma vs AC Milan.
The energy and quality of the former Lille and the lethal instinct of El Pistolero could be precisely the winning combination AC Milan desperately need. Especially considering the hugely disappointing form of Jesus Suso so far. Perhaps benching Suso in favor of Piatek and Leao up front should be the next step.
