Voices wanting Lucas Paqueta to play as trequartista get louder but AC Milan coach Marco Giampaolo continues to resits.
MILAN NEWS – It’s no secret that Marco Giampaolo is a big fan of the 4-3-1-2 formation. The new AC Milan coach has used this game system practically in every club he has been and intends to do the same at Milan. Creative players like Suso and Lucas Paqueta are the key to his ideas.
However, so far, there has been one problem preventing the full implementation of Giampaolo’s footballing philosophy. The audition for the role of trequartista has been deemed unsuccessful.
In this first league games Giampaolo has used Suso in this position with mixed results. The Spaniard didn’t do that good in the 1-0 defeat against Udinese but fared much better against Brescia albeit shifted more to the right. That’s why fans, and not only, have strongly petitioned for Lucas Paqueta to be tried in this role.
In the press conference before the match against Verona, journalists asked Giampaolo whether he viewed the Brazilian talent as an trequartista or just as a central midfielder. The Italian coach believes that the former Flamengo should learn to attack better in order to perform in that role.
“He is a player who can do both, I will choose based on the opponent. Whoever plays trequartista must learn to also be a striker, he has the characteristics of a midfielder but in order to play as a playmaker he must learn to move as a half striker”, said Giampaolo .
