AC Milan new arrival named worst summer signing
The Belgian arrived amid high hopes but his time in Italy has so far been a disaster and he has struggled for fitness
AC Milan signed a number of players this summer. Starting from talented youngsters like Charles De Ketelaere and Malick Thiaw up to experienced players like Florenzi, Messias and Origi. It can be argued that none of the newcomers has left his mark at San Siro yet. However, the name of Divock Origi stands out.
The 27-year-old Belgian striker arrived from Liverpool on a free transfer this summer. Origi was projected to play a very important role for the Rossoneri this season, especially considering the long injury of Zlatan Ibrahimovic and the age of Olivier Giroud. Things have unfolded differently and Divock Origi is now being named the worst summer signing across Europe.
Daily Mail writes that we might only be a few matches into the new season but Divock Origi already looks to be Serie A’s worst signing of the season as injuries continue to plague the former Liverpool man. The Belgian striker left Liverpool hoping to finally nail down a starting spot at a top club but his time at AC Milan has so far been a disaster.
Divock was never a regular for the Reds but, nevertheless, he was admired by coach Jurgen Klopp for scoring crucial goals like in the 2019 Champions League final against Tottenham. However, rather than catching the eye, his first months in Italy have been a mixture of bad luck and injuries. A similar fate to his time in England.
A player at 27 years old, especially a striker, should be at his peak form. Instead the former Liverpool has failed to hit the ground running. Numerous physical problems have put him a downward curve in his career according to Daily Mail. Just four appearances and a total of 81 minutes on the pitch are a disappointing start to life in Italy.
AC Milan may be beginning to think that they made a mistake signing Origi, who became one of the club’s highest earners when he joined reports the English newspaper. There is a big risk is that Origi could become a flop like Javi Moreno, Jose Mari, Patrick Kluivert and Fernando Torres.
