Only Milan can save Leao from €16.5 million fine
Rafael Leao is forced to pay Sporting Lisbon an astronomical fine of €16.5 million and AC Milan could be his only savior.
As if the quarantine period and the championship stop were not enough, Rafael Leao recently had another rather strong blow. The AC Milan striker was fined by the Court of Arbitration for Sport to compensate Sporting Lisbon, his former team, with an astronomical figure of 16.5 million euros.
The reason is Leao’s transfer to Lille in 2018, which occurred after the Portuguese player unilaterally terminated his contract with Sporting Lisbon and joined Lille for free. Sporting sued the 20-year-old player, indicating his departure from the club as illegal and unjustified.
Now, according to Portuguese newspaper Record, the ball passes to Leao’s new agent Jorge Mendes. The super agent is looking for a solution to avoid Leao’s shocking fine for breach of contract.
Jorge Mendes’ idea is to involve his last two clubs in the payment of the fine: Lille and AC Milan. The Rossoneri could thus pay a part of the fine, despite having nothing to do with this case.
Jorge Mendes will try to convince Elliot to help the young striker, relying on the fact that such a salty fine could also affect Rafael Leao’s performances with Milan. However, considering Elliot’s frugality in their investment at Milan, it will be interested to see their response.
