AC Milan Primavera graduate Stefan Simic is expected to make his first team debut in Europa League against Dudelange.
Injuries have plagued Milanello and have halved Gennaro Gattuso’s squad. The situations is very difficult in midfield with Lucas Biglia and Giacomo Bonaventura out for a long period of time. But no other department is suffering more than the defence.
Mattia Caldara yesterday announced that he had removed his foot protector and will return in February. While both Matteo Musacchio and Alessio Romagnoli should return in late December or early January. That leaves coach Gattuso with only two centre backs available at his disposal: Cristian Zapata and Stefan Simic.
The 23 year old Czech defender is a product of AC Milan’s youth ranks and part of the first squad since 2014 but he has never represented the Red and Black colors in an official match. The recent injury crisis and Dudelange, Europa League’s easy opponent, are about to change that with Simic soon to make his debut.
Tuttosport reports that Simic will compose the central pair in defence with the Colombian on Thursday’s Europa League match against Dudelange. Gattuso aims for excessive rotation and will offer a chance to many players who have rarely seen the pitch this season including Stefan Simic.
Despite him never playing for Milan, Simic has some experience in Serie A. Last season he was part of Crotone where he made 9 appearances In Italy’s first tier.
