With Gattuso destined to leave it’s still unclear who will be the new AC Milan coach. Apparently that’s because there is a friction between the Rossoneri directors on the new name.
Another season of Serie A is coming to an end but AC Milan are still hopeful of Champions League qualification. Nevertheless, no matter the final result, the departure of coach Gennaro Gattuso seems inevitable.
Several candidates have been linked with AC Milan recently. The Rossoneri are already at work trying to find the perfect replacement for Gattuso. Even if Milan qualify for Champions, Rino is certain to leave after a difficult relationship with the new ownership and sporting director Leonardo in particular.
However, the name of Gattuso’s successor is not that clear. According to Libero, there is a friction between the Rossoneri directors regarding the new AC Milan coach. Paolo Maldini’s top pick is Gasperini of Atalanta while Leonardo wants Esusebio Di Francesco but could accept even Gasperini.
CEO Iva Gazidis instead would prefer a foreign and established name on the bench. Gazidis is a big fan of Tottenham coach Mauricio Pochettino but the Argentine is in demand after leading the English club to a historic champions League final.
The good news is that Pochettino feels his cycle at Tottenham is coming to an end after 5 years in charge. The former centre back could be attracted by the idea of guiding AC Milan’s new project but Champions League qualification is a must in this case.
