Liverpool are ready to let midfielder Naby Keita join AC Milan but the Reds would prefer a swap deal.
In the last few days the name of Naby Keita has popped up as a possible reinforcement for AC Milan’s midfield. A player that Ralf Rangnick knows very well, given that he coached the Guinean during his time at Red Bull Leipzig in the Bundesliga.
A far from simple operation, considering that Liverpool invested 65 million euros to buy Keita two years ago. In addition, the African footballer receives a salary of around 6.4 million pounds a year. The costs of this deal are quite high and not very sustainable for the budget of AC Milan.
Naby Keita is not a regular starter at Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp is willing to sell him in the next transfer window. Among the goals of the Reds coach would be the purchase of a new central defender and precisely at Milan there is a profile he likes a lot: Rossoneri captain Alessio Romagnoli.
According to reports in England, Liverpool could take advantage of AC Milan’s interest in Keita in order to propose a swap deal involving Romagnoli. While Joe Gomez has done well so far, Klopp is wants to bring a better partner for Virgil van Dijk thus forming a formidable central duo in defence.
Nevertheless, Milan don’t consider Keita anywhere near Romagnoli’s level. While the 25-year-old midfielder has failed to live up to expectations in the Premier League, Romagnoli is one of the best defenders in Italy. The renewal of the AC Milan captain is a priority for the club and the Rossoneri have no intention of letting their star leave despite the interest of top European clubs.
