After a long period of positive results AC Milan have crumbled lately losing with Inter and Sampdoria and drawing at San Siro against Udinese. Champions League qualification is at real risk and another negative result, this week against Juventus, would push the Rossoneri further from their seasonal goal. At this point it seems like Gennaro Gattuso’s fate is sealed and at the end of the season another coach will take his place. But who?
MAURIZIO SARRI
At the end of the season Maurizio Sarri will leave Chelsea. The English club and the Italian manager seem destined to part way after a very tense relationship this year.
Sarri was very close to joining AC Milan in the summer of 2015, when Adriano Galliani worked hard to take from Empoli. Unfortunately former president Silvio Berlusconi opted against Sarri who later joined Napoli.
With Gennaro Gattuso set to leave the club, Maldini is pushing for the appointment of Sarri. According to Calciomercato, Sarri could be considered the most likely name to become coach of AC Milan. Maldini is lobbing with Leonardo and Gazidis to advance contacts in this direction.
The possible arrival of Sarri could also facilitate the pursuit of Lorenzo Insigne. Milan are interested in the star winger of Napoli and Sarri would certainly help in this regard.

GIAN PIERO GASPERINI
Even though Mauricio Pochettino is Gazidis’ number one pick, the Tottenham coach is out of reach for AC Milan. The Argentine coach has reached the Champions League semi-finals and wants to continue in England.
Well, according to Gazidis, the second best choice is Gian Piero Gasperini. The Atalanta coach has done miracles with the Bergamo club reaching the final of Coppa Italia and is in the battle for a place in Champions League.
Gasperini is famous in Italy for his great work with young players. Conti and Kessie are two of his finest revelations and a young team like AC Milan could use a coach of this nature.
The only negative aspect is his lack of experience at top level. When he was appointed coach of Inter in 2011, Gian Piero Gasperini was sacked before the end of the season.

EUSEBIO DI FRANCESCO
In his first season with Roma coach Eusebio Di Francesco did an excellent job guiding the capitol club to a historic semi-final in the Champions League. Unfortunately things didn’t go that well this season.
Di Francesco was sacked a few months ago but the responsibility for this season’s failure should be credited to sporting director Monchi and his bad choices on the transfer market.
For AC Milan, Eusebio Di Francesco represents a good choice if the Rossoneri fail to qualify for Champions League. In that scenario he would be the perfect choice but if AC Milan reach a place in the top four they will consider other primary targets.

ANTONIO CONTE
Every time AC Milan are going through a difficult moment the name of Antion Conte emerges as a potential replacement for Gattuso. The Italian has a contract with Chelsea but he is free to take a new club starting from next season. Could Milan be Conte’s new team?
Unlikely. The former Juventus is undoubtedly one of the best managers in the world and, despite his past, sporting director Leonardo would not hesitate to offer him the job but the problem here is economic.
AC Milan simply can not afford to sign a coach that ears 12-15 million euros per season. Furthermore a coach like Conte demands heavy investments on the transfer market. Though he has admitted he would love to coach again in Italy he wants to do it at a club that can challenge Juventus for the Serie A tittle.
It’s clear that the current AC Milan team can not compete at these levels. In order for Milan to convince Conte, the club must sign 5 or 6 top players. Very difficult and without Champions League that would be impossible. That’s not because Elliot doesn’t have money but simply because the Financial Fair Play doesn’t allow these type of investments in such a short period of time.

Filippo Inzaghi made history with AC Milan from 2001 to 2012. Super Pippo is a two-times Champions League winner with the Rossoneri and one of the best players in the history of the club however he failed to repeat the same success as coach. Could his brother do better?
Apparently one of the top candidates to replace Gennaro Gattuso is Simone Inzaghi. Unlike his brother, Simone seems destined to have a brighter future as coach rather than as player.
The former striker is coach of Lazio since 2016. In two years in the capital Simone Inzaghi has guided Lazio to two fifth places in Serie A and in two Coppa Italia final. Last year, Inzaghi won his first trophy with Lazio defeating Juventus in the Italian Super Cup final.
Lazio is one of the most attractive teams in Serie A playing entertaining football. He has managed to build a compact team mixing young talented players with elements of experience. Simone Inzaghi can not be considered a coach of international appeal but he is certainly one of the most promising in Italy.

LUCIEN FAVRE
The Swiss 61 year old perfectionist is currently leading the German Bundesliga with Borussia Dortmund. The Black and Yellows could finally break the domestic domination of Bayern Munich this season and that’s a big merit of Favre.
Borussia Dortmund play excellent football and have been a joy to watch so far. Favre’s side also boosts some of the best young talents in Europe, a feat that AC Milan are eager to replicate.
Lucien Favre also did a fantastic job during his tenure at Borussia Monchengladbach. In 4 years, Favre revived a fallen giant of German football, taking them from certainties for relegation to the pinnacle of European football in the Champions League (twice).
He later joined Nice helping them reach a historic second place in 2016/17. Favre is well-known for his dynamic style of management, quick and attacking-minded football. He is also notorious for his ability to develop talented youngster like Dzemaili, Reus, Xhaka and ter Stegen.

The last name ion the list s Luis Enrique. The former midfielder of Real Madrid and Barcelona is now coach of the Spanish national team.
Luis Enrique achieved great success as coach of Barcelona. He won a total of 9 titles in his 3 years with Barca including the treble in his first year. A coach of international experience just what Elliot demands.
If AC Milan were to sign Luis Enrique that would mark his return in Italy. Not many remember but Luis Enrique started his managerial career at Roma. He remained for only one year in the capitol failing to find any success.
His immediate return to Spain at Celta Vigo proved much more fruitful paving the path to a move to Barcelona two years later. The coach dilemma should continue until the end of the season but for now Milan must remain concentrated on the pitch to achieve a place in the top 4.
