Montella: “Scapegoat at Milan. Cutrone? My creature”

Publicly AC Milan and Vincenzo Montella parted ways not in a negative way, but with the passing of the weeks news has emerged about resentments on both sides.

Montella was interviewed by Radio Anch’io Sport and commented on the recent success of AC Milan: “We (coaches) are also paid to be scapegoats. I have done my job well, even making some mistakes. There were ten new players and someone immediately expected results, but it took time. Even the management said that we had to wait. Improvement in the standings? I’m not watching but they are making a great comeback also because in front Inter and Lazio have slowed down“.

The Sevilla coach spoke about Patrick Cutrone, a striker on whom he bet in the summer and who represents the best surprise of the Rossoneri’s season: “Happy for his call-up to the national team, it’s as if I was called. I feel him a bit like a creature of mine. His hunger was visible, we worked a lot with him“.

Montella also offered his opinion on Andre Silva, an attacker who struggled a bit initially but who in the last few games has scored two decisive goals in the league: “He is very young, he is now showing his true potential. Sometimes players are judged based on their price tag, but for strikers who arrive in Serie A it’s always more complicated“.

The former coach of Milan has also commented on Gianluigi Donnarumma, often at the center of rumors related to his contract and his future that could be far away from Milan: “He is a balanced boy, for his skill no errors are forgiven to him. The arrival of Reina? Every great team must have two top level goalkeepers“.

Finally, Montella was asked about the three-man defense that he implemented for months with little success: “We need time and adaptation, given that there were new players. The formation has nothing to do with it“.
