AC Milan are widely considered to be one of the favorite teams to claim Europa League glory but how much is Europa League success worth?
The new season of Europa league has just started, AC Milan made their group stage debut versus Austria Wien away from San Siro. A positive outing with the rossoneri scoring 5 goals and a convincing performance proving that Lazio was just a false step.
Calcio & Finanza portal has analyzed the chances of gains and profits for the participating Italian clubs, namely AC Milan, Lazio and Atalanta, all three winning their respective matches of round one. First of all, we start from the bonuses: all 48 teams participating in group stage receive 2.6 million euros, which will then be added to variable premiums depending on the results in the group stage. Uefa rewards the clubs with 360,000 € for each win and 120,000 € for each draw. Qualification at the final 32 will instead pay 600,000 euros for teams ranked in first place, while the second one will receive a 300,000 euro bonus.
In knockout phase, the revenue will increase progressively: 500,000 euros for the round of 32, 750,000 € for the round of 16, 1 million euros in quarter-finals, then 1,6 million for the semifinalists and finally the winner of the Europa League will put in their pockets 6,5 millions against the 3.5 millions earned by the runner-up. Everything calculated without taking into account the market pool, meaning the amount allocated to each national football league to be divided by the number of the participating teams. In the case of Milan, Lazio and Atalanta it’s expected to be about 3.75 million euros for each. So with a quick calculation Milan, if it were to win the Europa League title, would get a total of around 20 million euros from Uefa.
Finally, Calcio & Finanza also speculates on good cash inflows from tickets sales and mini-subscription tickets sold by Milan for Europa League home games. Only for the preliminary with Craiova the rossoneri enjoyed revenues of 2 million euros. With this rhythm the club can boast excellent figures also for the internal games with Austria Wien, Rijeka and AEK Athens.
