Coach Stefano Pioli is making radical changes for AC Milan vs Spal with adjustments in each department of the pitch.
On Thursday night, at the San Siro stadium, AC Milan need to bounce back. Against SPAL the Rossoneri are obliged to return to the winnings ways. After the disappointing draw against Lecce and the bad defeat in Rome, there is only one option for Stefano Pioli’s side in Milan vs Spal.
The 10 points in the first 9 rounds of the Serie A mark one of the worst starts to the season in Milan’s history. Europa League zone is 5 points away while the relegation area only 3. To avoid the risk of falling lower and worsening the existing crisis, a convincing win against Spal is necessary.
Pioli will practically overhaul his team for Milan vs Spal. Certain players will have to pay for their disappointing performances so far. One big change is going to happen in defence. Coach Pioli will surprisingly bench both Davide Calabria and Andrea Conti and Leo Duarte should start on the right. Mateo Musacchio, Alessio Romagnoli and Theo Hernandez complete the back line.
In midfield, it’s finally Bennacer’s turn to play from the first minute under Pioli. The defensive midfielder will replace Lucas Biglia author of too many errors against Roma. The use of the Algeria international should allow the team to play a more vertical game. Despite Krunic’s and Bonaventura’s candidacy, Lucas Paqueta and Franck Kessie could be confirmed in their respective positions. Both need to redeem themselves after the underwhelming display at the Olimpico. However, according to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Bonaventura will take Paqueta’s spot on the left.
Regarding the attack, the only certainty is Hakan Calhanoglu. The Turkish number 10 will continue to play on the left wing. On the opposite side, Suso will start from the bench for the first time this season. Samuel Castillejo and Ante Rebic fight for a starting spot with the Spanish winger in advantage. Krzysztof Piatek too is favorite over Rafael Leao
AC MILAN (4-3-3): G. Donnarumma; Duarte, Musacchio, Romagnoli, Hernandez; Bennacer, Kessie, Paqueta (Bonaventura); Castillejo, Piatek, Calhanoglu.
SPAL (3-5-2): Berisha; Cionek, Vicari, Tomovic; Strefezza, Kurtic, Missiroli, Murgia, Reca; Petagna, Paloschi.
