Inter vs AC Milan

It’s only the fourth round of Serie A and it’s already time for AC Milan vs Inter. Giampaolo and Conte face each other for the first time.

It’s time for the Derby della Madonnina. Tonight, at 20:45 CET, the Rossoneri host the city-rivals of Inter. A few days ago Inter were considered the favorites to win the derby, but after their Champions League performance, it’s clear that the hated cousins are not that far ahead of the Rossoneri.

Marco Giampaolo will face for the first time his Nerazzurri colleague Antonio Conte. Giampaolo hasn’t lost a derby in his three years at Sampdoria and Conte has done the same with Juventus. However, the Milan derby is a derby of a totally different dimension. A few doubts remain but Giampaolo has already chosen the starting eleven to face Inter. Unlike what was expected, he will again rely on his 4-3-1-2 formation rather than the old 4-3-3.

Gigio Donnarumma between the posts as usual. A small change in defence with Andrea Conti taking Calabria’s spot. The young right back received a red card against Verona and is suspended for the derby. A great opportunity for Conti to showcase his talent. Captain Romagnoli and Musacchio form the central duo with Ricardo Rodriguez on the left. Theo Hernandez has recovered but Giampaolo doesn’t want to risk him for the derby.

The name of the starting defensive midfielder will remain a mystery until tomorrow but Lucas Biglia is favorite over Bennacer. Coach Giampaolo seems oriented to rely on the experience of the Argentine midfielder who has much more experience than Bennacer in the big stage. Franck Kessie and Hakan Calhanoglu complete the department.

The formation change from 4-3-3 to 4-3-1-2 leaves Rebic out of the starting eleven. The Croatian was supposed to be the only summer signing to debut AC Milan vs Inter but Giampaolo’s plans have changed. Despite failing to impress as attacking midfielder against Verona, it will be Lucas Paqueta again behind Suso and Piatek. The Polish striker is looking for his first derby goal.

AC MILAN: (4-3-1-2): G. Donnarumma, Conti, Musacchio, Romagnoli, Rodriguez, Kessie, Biglia, Calhanoglu, Suso, Paqueta (Rebic), Piatek.

INTER: (3-5-2): Handanovic, De Vrij, Godin, Skrinar, Asamoah, Brozovic, Barella, Candreva, Sensi, Polinato, Lukaku.
