Fassone discusses UEFA, Voluntary Agreement and lack of Champions
The financial stability of Milan is still a bit cloudy. Fassone will travel in China soon to develop commercial partnerships and in November he will meet UEFA.
While Milan is looking for a necessary reaction on field after the awful performance against Sampdoria, the club is reasoning on future plans from an economic point of view. Debt with the Elliott Fund is the hottest topic, but there is also the yet unsigned agreement with UEFA.
Marco Fassone commented on these issues during the Wired Next17 in Firenze. First, the CEO of AC Milan spoke about the debtrefinancing plan with the US investment fund: “We hope to repay it by the beginning of 2018. We have already started negotiations with many banks around the world. I think by March 2018 everything will be in order.“
As for the negotiation regarding the Voluntary Agreement with UEFA, Fassone declares: “We met the committee in May. A six-month postponement was necessary to present our plans and make them reliable. We will present our plans in November and we will try to prove that we have spent so much to get back to being competitive, so next your we can start to respect the financial boundaries. I think UEFA has to adapt to today’s football. I hope they accept.“
Many are concerned about the future. This year’s qualification in Champions League is crucial especially for a matter of economic nature. But Fassone clarifies: “We will not fail without Champions. We have alternative plans for UEFA in case of missed Champions qualification. It’s a declared goal, but we’ll have some certainty maybe in May. “
