Milan, numbers and statistics of a disastrous start

Inter vs AC Milan

Inter vs AC Milan

It was known that time would be need for AC Milan to create a new identity but few would have expected the team to perform at such disappointing levels.

There were all the necessary conditions to calm the waters and inject confidence in the group. But AC Milan misuse yet another opportunity. Only 0-0 against AEK Athens. The result is not the only problem: the team continues to lack gaming mechanisms and yet another formation change did not help.

CalcioNews24 explains the disastrous start of the rossoneri’s season in a few numbers. It all starts with the number of defeats in the league: four in eight games. If the red and blacks will continue on this line, they risk ending the season with 19 ko. Inadmissible data for a team like AC Milan who fight for Champions League access next year. The defeats, among other things, came in the most complicated matches, away with Sampdoria and Lazio and home against Roma and Inter. The last three are direct competitors for a place in the top four.

Astonishing are also the numbers that depict the striking distance from other top teams: 12 points from Napoli, 10 from Inter, 7 from Juventus and 3 from Roma (has a match more to play). A considerable gap that does not help Vincenzo Montella to project a comeback. Then the goal difference: 12 goals scored (9th best attack of Serie A) and 13 goals conceded (catastrophic defense, even worst than Bologna, Sampdoria, Chievo and Fiorentina). Absurd statistics if we consider the 70 million euros spent for Andre Silva and Nikola Kalinic and 60 for Leonardo Bonucci and Mateo Musacchio.

There is absolutely a need to give purpose to this season. In such difficult moments, clubs with similar past, like Manchester United and Manchester City that have spent a lot on the market must serve as an example. But last year, both, built something important and today they are fighting each-other for the Premier League title.
