AC Milan want to keep Simon Kjaer for long. The Danish star will serve as a mentor for the young defenders that will join Milan.
Simon Kjaer has had an unexpected impact since joining AC Milan in January. The Denmark captain is indispensable for Stefano Pioli’s side. The 31-year-old arrived on loan from Sevilla and then was signed on a permanent transfer for a fee of 3.5 million euros.
At this moment the former Atalanta and Sevilla is even more important than Alessio Romagnoli, having led the Milan defense with honor and brilliance during the long absence of the young captain. The present therefore indicates Kjaer as the leader of Milan, but in the future the 31-year-old Dane will still be very useful, both on and off the pitch.
In fact, it seems that Milan will focus strongly on Kjaer also to make him mentor younger defenders who will join the Rossoneri in the near future. The club’s plan is to sign, in January or at the latest in the summer, a new perspective defender, who together with Gabbia could represent the future of the Milan defense.
AC Milan’s preferred target is Matteo Lovato. The 20-year-old defender of Hellas Verona is rocky and very ductile player. The youngster who grew up at Padova is already showing all his qualities in the league. Convinced from his performances so far, AC Milan have chosen Lovato as Kjaer’s heir.
Milan will focus strongly on Lovato and will ‘hand him over’ to the care of Kjaer, who could thus help him grow, mature and become a top level defender. Until he can be considered the natural heir.
The same work that the Dane is already doing with Matteo Gabbia. “He is a perfect pupil, he reminds me of me as a young man” – said Kjaer of his young teammate, who matured a lot in the last season alongside the Scandinavian giant.
