Many Rossoneri fans have pointed the finger towards Gennaro Gattuso as the main reason why AC Milan lost the derby against Inter.
AC Milan lost the first derby of the season. An evening to forget for the Rossoneri team who conceded the only goal of the match at the 92-nd minute from the usual Mauro Icardi.
Il Diavolo disappointed the expectations of fans and management. In fact, Gennaro Gattuso’s boys failed to impose their game and never took control of the game. There was a clear feeling that the objective was just not to lose. Unlike the Nerazzurri, who instead tried to win the match from the first to the last minute. The AC Milan coach, however, is not discouraged and, in the post-match interview, insisted he saw good things, especially regarding the mentality and deployment.
As highlighted by today’s edition of Tuttosport, Gattuso has his fair share of blame, starting with the substitutions. Rino’s choices did not convince. In the second half he brought in Patrick Cutrone. Surprisingly, not to support Gonzalo Higuaìn, but to play on the left wing. What seemed to be an extra man in attack turned out to be a simple head-to-head substitution. However the former Primavera does not have the required characteristics to make that kind of game.
Gattuso could have done better even in midfield. Rino chose to enter Tiemoue Bakayoko in place of Franck Kessie. Even this substitution did not convince, given that the French player is really far from the best physical and mental condition. The feeling, reiterates Tuttosport, is that Gattuso did not play to win, as if, aware of his own inferiority, he had bet on the draw.
