Lille goalkeeper Mike Maignan, that should replace Donnarumma if he leaves, is the best player in his position across Europe this season.
French goalkeeper Mike Maignan is AC Milan’s number one pick to replace Gianluigi Donnarumma. The 25-year-old shot-stopper will protect the Rossoneri’s goal if Gigio Donnarumma decides not to extends his contract and leave San Siro.
The contract of Maignan with Lille expires in one year. According to various reports AC Milan have blocked the French goalkeeper for next season. The Rossoneri will pay around 17 million euros to Lille while Mike will sign a five-year contract at 2 million euros plus bonuses.
Meanwhile, Mike Maignan is helping Lille challenge for an unlikely triumph in Ligue 1. After 35 league matches, Lille are leading the French league with 76 points, one more than PSG. Yesterday, the team coached by Christophe Galtier defeated Nice 2-0 and reclaimed the top spot in Ligue 1 standings.
With yesterday’s match Maignan reached 19 clean sheets in Ligue 1 in the 2020/2021 season. The 25-year-old is the goalkeeper who has kept his goal untouched the most in the five major leagues across Europe. He is the first goalkeeper in the French league to achieve that record after Kevin Trapp with PSG in the 2015/2016 season. In comparison, Donnarumma has held 10 league clean sheets this season.
Mike Maignan joined Lille in 2015 from Paris Saint-Germain for just €1 million. During his time at PSG he was a teammate of Zlatan Ibrahimovic. The two used to practice a lot penalty kicks in training sessions revealed the Lille star.
