Mike Maignan set to return for big Serie A match

AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan will be returning to the pitch much sooner than expected after being declared clinically cured.

The Rossoneri have already archived yesterday’s defeat against Fiorentina and are focused on Wednesday night’s big Champions League match at the Wanda Metropolitano against Cholo Simeone’s Atletico Madrid.

Today, AC Milan players immediately returned to training to prepare for the match against the Spanish team. Mike Maignan joined his teammates in today’s training sessions after many weeks of personalized work.

The French goalkeeper has trained regularly and his conditions are very encouraging. The former Lille shot-stopper has been declared clinically cured after a wrist surgery he had to undergo on 13 October.

His return on the pitch will not be immediate. The AC Milan doctors will continue to monitor Maignan’s situation in the coming days before giving the green light to his reentry. However, it’s believed that Mike Maignan will return between the posts for 18 December’s big match against Napoli. If the timing proves correct, Mike will skip the upcoming matches with Sassuolo, Genoa, Salernitana and Udinese.

Ciprian Tatarusanu has replaced Mike Maignan during his absence while Antonio Mirante was signed to be the back-up option. Maignan joined AC Milan during the summer after Gianluigi Donnarumma moved to PSG. AC Milan spent 16 million euros to purchase the former Lille.
