AC Milan goalkeeper Mike Maignan will undergo surgery today but his recovery time will be much longer than initially thought.
After the training at Milanello yesterday afternoon, AC Milan announced that Mike Maignan is struggling with a wrist injury. Unfortunately, the French goalkeeper needs to undergo surgery in order to solve a problem that has been troubling him since the match against Liverpool.
A very bad news for the Rossoneri and for coach Stefano Pioli given that it arrives on the eve of a series of delicate and close matches. Decisive games that can impact the rest of the Rossoneri’s season in Serie A and Champions League.
It is not yet clear the exact recovery time but the extent of Maignan’s injury is worse than initially thought. Two weeks of stop are not realistic and the year could be over for the 26-year-old goalkeeper according to reports.
La Gazzetta dello Sport claims that Mike Maignan will stay out for at least two months. He will surely miss the remaining Champions League matches. Maignan’s return on the pitch is not expected before the Christmas break at the end of the year.
Meanwhile, the Rossoneri have decided not to take any risks with Maignan’s recovery and sign a new goalkeeper. Former Roma shot-stopper Antonio Mirante will join AC Milan with a contract until the end of the season with a renewal option for one more year. Mirante was about to sign for Spezia but Milan’s call was too good to turn down.
