Shortly before the end of the first half, Mateo Musacchio was supposed to enter but the Argentine claimed he suffered a minor muscle injury during warm-up. Sky Sport reported a different story. According to journalist Peppe Di Stefano, Musacchio refused to enter forcing Pioli to rely on youngster Gabbia.
In the post-match interview is was impossible for Stefano Pioli to avoid questions on the issue. The AC Milan coach expanded the discussion by also talking about the defender’s mental state. Musacchio has lost his starting role since Simon Kjaer’s arrival.
“He was about to enter, then he told me that during warp up he had a calf problem. Hopefully nothing serious. Yes, he is certainly not happy, like all the players who are on the bench“.
The Argentine left San Siro in low humor and refused to talk to journalist insisting he had an injury. However, during the episode in question the cameras caught Pioli in in heated excahnge with the player.
