AC Milan want to sign a new striker in the summer but, with Mario Mandukic still on their books, he situation is complicated a lot.
In the summer AC Milan will have to make important decisions regarding the attack. Journalist Carlo Pellegatti reports that the Rossoneri’s mercato is in fact blocked by Mario Mandzukic.
“Mandzukic has a muscle problem and he has stayed at Milanello to train during these period of international break. To date we do not know if he will be available for the upcoming match against Sampdoria on 3 April. His recovery would be important because coach Stefano Pioli would have at his disposal a player of quality that could be alternated with Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Furthermore, his recovery is important to understand the future for next season. The Croatian striker has a six-months contract of 1.8 million euros with automatic renewal in the event of AC Milan’s return in Champions League. At the moment Milan look well positioned for a place in the top four and the management must figure out what to do with Mandzukic.
The Rossoneri need to understand if Mario can be the right alternative. Milan would like a player that’s ready to contribute for the squad, but if the Croatian remains, another striker is not needed. Maldini and Massara will carefully consider in recent weeks whether Milan can count on Mandzukic. It will be important for these last 10 days, but also for the future market.
Paolo Maldini has a very difficult task in his hands but everything revolves around the name of the Croatian centre forward. With Mandzukic turning 35 and Ibrahimovic is 40, there is also an age problem in attack. Between March and April, clubs make their first steps to set up the summer mercato. In the other roles Milan are in good shape, the attack needs to be fixed“.
